shelby & sandy: layers

September 10th, 2026

Selected Works Press Release Back

New York, NY (September 3, 2026) – For immediate release:

Taglialatella Galleries is pleased to present layers, a solo exhibition of new works by Los Angeles-based artist duo Shelby and Sandy. The exhibition opens with a reception on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 6:00–9:00 PM at the flagship New York gallery, 229 10th Avenue in Chelsea.

Known for their vibrant, nostalgia-infused paintings and sculptures, Shelby and Sandy transform the visual language of childhood into bold contemporary artworks. Drawing inspiration from the cartoons, superheroes, iconic athletes, and pop culture that defined their youth, the duo brings richly layered compositions to life with saturated color, graphic contour lines, and playful symbolism. Blending elements of Pop Art, Minimalism, Surrealism, and classic animation, their work evokes a sense of familiarity while reimagining beloved cultural icons through a distinctly contemporary lens.

With a highly recognizable aesthetic and a devoted international following, Shelby and Sandy have emerged as two of the most exciting voices in contemporary pop art. Their work has been collected by notable figures including Drake, Bradley Cooper, Mariah Carey, Rachel Zoe, and David Dobrik, among many others, and exhibited in galleries from California to Hong Kong. Beyond the gallery circuit, the duo has collaborated with leading brands on limited-edition collections spanning apparel, furniture, and sporting goods, extending their signature visual language across art, design, and lifestyle.

layers debuts an entirely new body of hand-created artworks featuring paintings with layered panels, constructed as 3-dimensional works that engage the viewer, adapting the space around the imagery by activating an interactive experience with the compositions. The imagery in layers explores the intersections of memory, identity, and shared cultural experience. Shelby and Sandy invite viewers to rediscover the joy, humor, and optimism embedded within the icons of a generation—revealing new narratives with every glance.

The exhibition is open to the public, but please RSVP to attend the opening reception on Thursday, September 10th at 229 10th Avenue, New York, NY from 6:00– 9:00 PM. For more information, please e-mail info@djtfa.com or call +1-212-367-0881.
